Consular Services:
The mission of the Embassy of the Republic of Mauritius is to safeguard and promote the national interests of the Republic of Mauritius and to assist and protect the interests of Mauritian nationals abroad. As part of this work we strive to provide high quality consular services.

Jurisdiction:
The Embassy of Mauritius has jurisdiction over Germany, Czech Republic, Austria and Ukraine.

Opening Hours:
Mondays through Fridays, 8.30 – 16.00 hours

Timing:
Application for a passport is accepted by mail and application for a visa by fax or mail. Application for all passport/consular services are also received at the reception room of the Embassy from 9.30 a.m. to 12.00 on all working days. Please make prior appointment.

Schedule of fees:

  • Issue of visa - No fees are charged for visa.
  • Issue of a new passport to a minor (under 16) citizen - 40 EURO
  • Issue of a new passport to a young (16-18) person - 50 EURO
  • Issue of a new passport to an adult (18-55) - 50 EURO
  • Issue of a new passport to a Senior citizen (above 55 years) - 40 EURO
  • First issue of a new passport when a valid passport has been lost, stolen or damaged - 180 EURO
  • Endorsement of a passport - 15 EURO
  • Issue of a certificate of identity or travel document in lieu of passport - 15 EURO
  • Declaration of Renunciation - 25 EURO
Payment of Fees:
Fees are accepted in the form of bank transfers, cash or cheques. A receipt is issued for every payment made to the Embassy.

Passport:
If you are a Mauritian citizen and residing abroad, you must hold a valid Mauritian passport. Ensure that your passport is in good condition. Apply well in advance as applications for a new Mauritius passport is processed by the Embassy and forwarded to the Passport and Immigration Office (Mauritius)for issue. Information on passport application and application form are available at: www.mauritius-embassy.de/passport.php. You may also consult the webpage of the Passport and Immigration Office (Mauritius): www.passport.gov.mu. Submit all the documents required to enable the Passport and Immigration Office (Mauritius) to promptly deliver your passport. Complete application will be forwarded to the Passport and Immigration Office (Mauritius) within 15 days and the new passport will be forwarded to you as soon as received from Mauritius.

Report a stolen passport to the police and contact the Embassy of Mauritius immediately for advice.

We do not issue a replacement passport. However, we are able to issue a travel document for a single journey to Mauritius with the authorisation of the Passport and Immigration Office (Mauritius). To obtain a travel document please submit an application to the Embassy along with the following documents:
  1. report of loss from police
  2. copy of passport
  3. National Identity Card
  4. birth certificate
  5. certificate of residence (Aufenthaltserlaubnis)
  6. 2 photographs, and
  7. 15 EURO

Visa to Germany:
Mauritian nationals do not require a visa to travel to Germany. Citizens of Mauritius may enter and stay without a visa in the territory of EU member states within the Schengen Area for a period not exceeding three months from the date of first entry during a sex months period, provided they are in possession of a valid passport, a valid return/onward air ticket, a hotel reservation or a letter of invitation.

Visa:
Applications for visa to enter Mauritius are processed by the Embassy and forwarded to the Passport and Immigration Office for issue. Information on visa application and application form are available at www.mauritius-embassy.de/consular.php.

Those who are issued the visa at the airport are required to produce the following documents when entering Mauritius (e.g. German citizens):
  • Valid recognized passport;
  • Valid return passage ticket to country of origin or residence;
  • Adequate funds to meet cost of stay in Mauritius;
  • Re-entry visa for country of residence/residence permit (e.g. if you are not German and are in possession of a residence permit in Germany);
  • Confirmed booking of accommodation (if sponsored by a Mauritian citizen applicant should produce supporting letter of sponsor, stating name, address and relationship)

Those applying for a visa are required to submit the following documents to the Embassy:
  1. Copy of relevant pages of the passport (showing photograph, nationality, passport no., issuing authority) – please do not send your passport!
  2. Copy of re-entry visa or residence permit for country of origin (e. g. Germany);
  3. Confirmed booking of accommodation issued by the Mauritian hotel itself, not by the travel agency (the hotel may fax the booking confirmation directly to the Embassy), or if sponsored by a Mauritian citizen, applicant should produce supporting letter of sponsor, stating name, telephone number, address and relationship.
  4. Confirmed booking of return passage ticket (required information: name of customer, dates of flight and flight numbers!)
  5. Application form completely (important!) filled out in English and duly dated and signed;
  6. Two passport photos (these are the only documents that have necessarily to be sent by mail, the other documents can also be transmitted by fax).
Important:
Please indicate your telephone and fax number so as to facilitate quick communication with you.
The time for processing of visa application takes two to three weeks following submission of application and all required documents. The application is not processed until all required documents and information are submitted.

  • Registration of Mauritian citizens in Germany and countries of accreditation
  • Registration of Loss of official documents abroad (passport, travel document, driving license, national identity card)

  • Issuance of morality certificates/Marriage ability certificates (Ehefähigkeitszeugnis)
  • Renunciation of Mauritian Citizenship
    Documents to be submitted when applying for Renunciation of Mauritian Citizenship:
    1. Passport of Mauritius,
    2. National Identity Card or Declaration,
    3. Birth certificate,
    4. Marriage certificate (if applicable),
    5. Certificate of Naturalization (Einbürgerungsurkunde) or Guarantee of Naturalization (Einbürgerungszusicherung), and
    6. 25 EURO
    Note: Applicants should call in person at the Embassy after prior appointment or call at the Consulates of Mauritius in Germany, Austria and Czech Republic.
  • Certification of documents
  • Legalization of documents – Public documents from Germany and other countries that are State-parties to the Hague Convention abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents no longer need to be legalized. All that is now required for these documents is the Hague Apostille. It is the Prime Minister's Office which is responsible for the final authentication exercise, that is, issuing the "Apostille".


Mauritius-German Association in Germany
The Mauritius-Deutscher Freundschaftskreis e.V. is an association of Mauritians living in Germany and German friends of Mauritius. It has the aim of preserving and promoting Mauritian culture, to assist Mauritians in Germany to integrate in Germany and to foster mutual bonds. Further information can be obtained from www.go-mauritius.org.

Business:
The Embassy has a crucial role in developing contacts with companies which are actual or potential investors in Mauritius.

Investors will be referred to the Board of Investment (www.boimauritius.com). Operating under the Ministry of Finance, the Board of Investment is the apex investment promotion and facilitation agency of the Republic of Mauritius. Its primary role is to stimulate the development, growth and the expansion of the economy by promoting Mauritius as a competitive business and service centre.

The Board of Investment offers a wide range of support to German enterprises seeking to locate in Mauritius. It highlights the benefits of investing in Maruitius and offers assistance for the obtention of permits and guidance and information.

We ensure that you learn about and have access to all services available in Mauritius. Contact the Embassy to speak to an officer on investment opportunities in Mauritius. Your queries will be answered and additional information, if necessary, will be sought from the Board of Investment.

Services to Mauritian Companies:
The Embassy can assist Mauritian businesses venturing into the German market by providing information, advice and support.

SAFRI, the Southern Africa Initiative of German Business, comprises three of Germany's leading business organizations: the Afrika Verein (AV, German Africa Business Association), the Federation of German Industries (BDI), and the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce (DIHK).

Established at the instigation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1996, SAFRI's task is to create a platform in Germany, providing individual States within SADC the opportunity to show investors their potential and engage in targeted activities aimed at winning over investors and business partners.

Besides hosting economic and business conferences, in which the Embassy regularly participates, SAFRI also maintains a website to promote business relations between German and African companies. Mauritian companies seeking German partners can register free of charge at www.business-Africa.de.

The Southern African-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry is the official authorized representative of German industry and trade in Southern Africa. It aims at building bilateral business relationships between Southern Africa and Germany. The Chamber has since 1997 extended its activities to include Mauritius. The Chamber is linked to a network of 83 Chambers of Commerce in Germany, which provides access to about three million companies. The website of the Chamber is www.germanchamber.co.za.
