The Mauritius Freeport was established in 1992 with an aim of providing a customs-free zone for re-exportable goods.

It is regulated by the Free Port Authority, which is responsible for the management and control of the Freeport area. Storage, assembly, redistribution and logistical support are among some of the services offered to companies.
